Units input option instead of MG when taking a dose

Sometimes if I’m adjusting my dose it may be by units instead of mg. It would be cool if on the dose edit screen I could choose to input how many units I took, or at the very least, seeing the units show up next to the MG I put in so I’m not having to calculate it on the fly. Thanks!

I can definitely see the value in supporting units, especially for compounds that are commonly measured or administered using IU. However, from a medication-tracking perspective, I think using IU or syringe units as the primary, universal unit for dose tracking could be problematic.

mL only tells you the volume injected, and syringe “units” can essentially be another way of representing that volume depending on the syringe. Neither necessarily tells you the actual amount of active compound you administered. For dose tracking and titration, the amount of the compound itself (e.g. mg, when appropriate) is what matters.

I completely understand that in some parts of the world it’s common for syringes to be graduated in units rather than mL, so I do think there’s value in supporting this as an optional input when marking a dose as administered. But I wouldn’t use it as the primary unit for tracking the compound.

For example, 0.10 mL could mean 1 mg with one concentration, but 20 mg with another. If we only track the volume/units, the same entry could represent very different actual doses over time, which could make the compound history confusing and difficult to follow.

So I’d personally lean toward supporting units as an optional administration field, while keeping the actual dose tracking based on the amount of active compound. That way we can accommodate how people actually measure their doses without losing consistency in the medication history.

i agree, however i tend to forget how i reconned, so when i go take my 12.5mg i have to go look up how many units 12.5mg is. so the benefit of showing both mg and units would be less clicking around.
